CLEAR will use ‘Fostering Communities of Learners’ (FCL) as a research based approach to teaching and learning that focuses on individual student growth and collaboration. FCL is a model of teaching and learning which “embodies many traditions of democratic, student-centered, and inquiry-based instruction” (Mintrop, 2004).
FCL focuses on the student’s zone of proximal development (ZPD). This is the distance between learning independently and the level of learning with guidance. In order for every student to reach their fullest potential we must meet students where they are and provide learning opportunities that are relevant for each individual student.
